Wilmington Area Planning Council Conference Room, Newark, DEMario Nappa – Chair
Chairmans Report – Mario Nappa has decided to move on from the
Chairperson’s Position. The position is now open for nominations. If you
wish to nominate someone or yourself send an email to
firstname.lastname@example.orgComment on the WILMAPCO TIP Amendments – Not a lot of changes in terms
of Bike/Pedestrian Projects. WILMAPCO is accepting comments up to
Transportation Enhancements and CMAQ program – There is not much in the
way of variety, most of the projects are streetscapes related which
makes it more likely that bicycle specific projects would be approved.
Wilmington Bicycle Plan – 1st meeting has happened, next meeting is
Wednesday at 1.30 at the City/County Building. WILMAPCO is heading this
plan which is focused on mapping the best streets and routes in the
City. These will be used to sign streets as shared-use and eventually
bike lanes. Possible Bike Ban on Riverfront Walk is an issue. Plan is
still looking for more routes to be submitted, to submit a route go to
the Bike Delaware Blog [
http://bikedelaware.blogspot.com] and click on
“Help Create the Wilmington Bicycle Plan”. Already patterns are
starting to emerge with the few routes that have been mapped.Urban Bike Project Update – UBP met with Brandywine Village Restoration
about possible space in the old paint building at 19th and Market, one
idea is the UBP rent the lower floor and another related business or or
fundction operate on the street level. Other sites are being considered.
Bike Philly – Need Volunteers! For the ride, September 9, day after
Wilmington Grand Prix. Collaborate/Advertise at Grand Prix. Expecting
3,000 riders, 800 are already pre-registered, only 4 from DE. Enables
BCGP to hire a new employee and helps Bike DE in the end.
http://bikephilly2007.comTrail/Greenway – Bikes Belong funding to pay for a Greenway Map
collaboration with PA. Next East Coast Greenway meeting is in January.
This will hopefully designate a complete trail from Florida to Maine
using exisiting Greenways and roadways. Pomeroy trail is completely
funded, and a design manager has been hired. May take 2 years to
Tar & Chip Programs in DE – It would be nice to have them use finer chip
and sweep more often, mostly a downstate issue right now. Sussex
Cyclists has been talking to DelDOT to reduce Tar and Chip.
Rumble strips on 896 – 3-5 miles of rumble strips ground into small
shoulders in Pennsylvania between Landenberg and Route 841.. Makes it
impossible to ride in shoulder. Also some in Peoples Plaza, not as big a
deal because of wider lanes. DBC should be advised of this.
Expanding Bike DE Participation – Mario, use WCBC list more often to
promote. Article in White Clay Newsletter? Encourage people to use
Bike DE name in communications with media. Problem is not too many
people know about Bike DE or what participation entails. People may not
have time or live too far away to attend meetings, perhaps opening the
meeting to a conference call will increase participation..
Wilmington Grand Prix and Bike Parade – To take place September 8, 2007,
