    UBP Newsletter – October 9, 2008

Hi Everyone, we’ve finally returned from the West Coast after attending BikeBike! and visiting 3 successful community bike shops in California.
For those who haven’t been to the shop in awhile, we’ve made some great changes. Please stop in and say hello, come to the Benefit Show & Open House on October 25, or visit us at another October event.

Before leaving for Cali, we started working with the Child Development – Community Policing program in Wilmington. The program is a partnership between the Wilmington Police Department and the Division of Child Mental Health Service and serves children who are witnesses to or victims of trauma and violence within the City. Through the CD-CP program, UBP provides bikes to children who are violently robbed while riding.

Many thank’s go to anyone who has donated a bicycle, supported UBP financially or put in elbow grease to make this effort possible, this is what we’re here for! We welcome suggestions to get more bikes out into Wilmington through social service agencies. Email us your thoughts and ideas, thanks!

    October Events:
EMS Club Day and Bicycle Donation Drive
    Friday October 17, 10:00-9:30
    Saturday October 18, 10:00-9:30

Thanks to our friend Corry at Eastern Mountain Sports for setting up a bike drive and community/club day. Donate a bicycle and receive a store discount! All donations are tax-deductable, support UBP’s work with youth and keep our doors open to people of all walks of life.
