State police are looking for the drivers of three vehicles that struck a 58-year-old woman in a wheelchair just south of Wilmington and did not stop. She was pronounced dead at the scene Tuesday night in the 1000 block of S. Market St.
Police early today identified the victim as Edith A. McFarland of Wilmington.
Sgt. Paul Shavack said a southbound gold truck or SUV first hit the westbound woman as she crossed at the entrance to the Fairview Inn about 6:35 p.m. She was ejected from her wheelchair by the impact into the southbound lanes.
Shavack said the woman was then hit by two other vehicles that did not stop. He gave no details on the other vehicles.
He said the truck or SUV has damage to the front end and grill.
Police shut down the northbound lanes for an hour and the southbound lanes for two and a half hours as police investigated.
