8/7: WILMAPCO Nonmotorized Transportation Working Group
The NMTWG advocates the creation and funding a safe, direct network of bicycle and pedestrian facilities through the region. State and local government representatives, bicycle, greenway and pedestrian organizations and advocates come together to coordinate their work through this group. The group reviews bicycle and pedestrian plans, programs and policies to advise WILMAPCO staff, committees, and Council. The NMTWG will be meet on August 7, 2012 between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m at WILMAPCO. 8/15: Public Workshop: Northern Delaware Greenway, Talley Road
The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) is holding a Public Workshop to present designs for the greenway path improvements along Talley Road. Proposed improvements include the construction of a 10-ft paved multi use path and the reconstruction of Talley Road between Weldin Ridge and Miller Road. The greenway path when finished will connect the existing greenway paths at Rockwood Museum and Alapocas Run State Park. The workshop will be held on August 15, 2012 between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m at the Blue Ball Barn at Alapocas Run State Park.
8/20: Auburn Heights Preserve Trail Grand Opening
Yorklyn, DE – The Auburn Heights Preserve Trail is the first trail completed under Governor Markell’s First State Trails and Pathways initiative. It is a 1 1/2 mile loop around the state of Delaware’s Auburn Heights Preserve property in Yorklyn, Delaware. Auburn Heights Preserve features a furnished mansion completed in 1897 as well as the Marshall Steam Museum with the largest collection of operating steam cars in the world. The collection is owned and operated by the Friends of Auburn Heights Preserve.
8/20: Transportation Improvement Program Workshop
Newark, DE – The Wilmington Area Planning Council (WILMAPCO) has released the region’s draft Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for public comment through August 29. Comments can be made by attending a workshop on August 20, between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., at WILMAPCO, hosted by WILMAPCO and DelDOT or viewing information online. Map to location HERE. 8/22: Tour De Lance 5k Run/Walk

8/25: The Shore Fire Century
Ride beautiful, scenic routes (35, 65, and 100 miles) taking you through flat to gently rolling farmland in central Delaware. All routes will be marked with support (until 5:00 p.m.). A wide array of bicycle friendly food will be available at rest stops at regular intervals (five on the century). Pre-registration ends on 8/20. Visit the event hom page for more info.
