On May 15, 2013 at 7:00 PM, the northern Delaware 10 mile Ride of Silence will begin at the Ed Oliver Golf Club in Wilmington.  Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor those cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways.  Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn’t aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves.

The Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 10 mph, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride. There are no sponsors and no registration fees.  The ride, which is held during National Bike Month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways.  The ride is also a chance to show respect for and honor the lives of those who have been killed or injured.

See the flyer for more information on the Wilmington ride.  A Ride of Silence will also be held in Sussex County.  Click here for more information.

Why was this ride moved out of Newark. Seems like they have plenty of parking down at the Charter School plus you dont have any of this crap going on http://www.delawareonline.com/article/20130428/NEWS01/304280067/Man-shot-multiple-times-latest-Wilmington-violence. Sorry I was looking forward to once agin riding to honor those that have fallen over the past year and espicially Mr Wheeler. Venting a bit perhaps but makes no sense to me.

Jim, I’m sorry, I guess Wilmington can’t have a ride since it’s not Pleasantville … oops, I meant Newark. Stay home and safe.
