The American Discovery Trail ends in Lewes, Delaware

The National Discovery Trails Act would create a new category within the National Trail System for trails that offer historical and cultural resources. It would also designate the first of these new trails, the American Discovery Trail, which runs coast to coast across the U.S ending (or, if you like, starting) at Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes!

The route of the ADT through Delaware travels about 44.6 miles of sidewalks and rural roads, most with paved shoulders. The trail passes through the towns of Lewes, Milton, and Bridgeville, but is mostly in open farmland.

Being part of the National Trail System would enable the NGOs working on the trail (education, outreach, signage, etc.) to post signs on existing trail markers, in order to direct hikers, bikers, etc. in the right direction, and would bring more visibility and recognition to the trail.

A number of attempts to pass this bill have failed in the past. Please join Senator Coons on Tuesday at Cape Henlopen State Park as he leads a new effort to pass the National Discovery Trails Act and designate the American Discovery Trail.

Maybe a 1% chance of passing.
