The most compelling economic argument for cycling is when cycling is part of a transportation system that enables the formation of new households with lower levels of personal vehicle ownership. That’s because the formation such “car-lite” households is a fiscal stimulus to the communities in which they are located worth, on average, about $9,000 per year per household. And that stimulus continues, year after year; it’s the economic development gift that keeps on giving for local economies.
If we can reduce the cost of transportation in Delaware, we can catalyze local economic development and strengthen local communities.
