Gail Seitz and Ann Jornlin cycled from Oregon to New Hampshire

On June 16, Delawareans Gail Seitz and Ann Jornlin embarked on a bike journey across the United States, from the West coast to the East coast. They covered over 3,700 miles in fifty days.

Inspired by the Mike’s Team Academic Mentoring Program at the Clarence Fraim Boys and Girls Club in Wilmington, DE, Ann and Gail decided to use their cross-country ride to raise awareness and funding. The program, which was started in honor of Mike Clark’s dedication to fostering excellence in youth, works to improve students’ scholastic experiences, grades and futures through academic mentoring and technology education.

THE GOAL

In September 2012, local cyclist Jim Seuffert – a close friend of Mike Clark – initiated BIKE FOR MIKE’S KIDS with the first cross-country ride. Along with including students as a “base camp” support team, Jim aimed to raise the final $70,000 needed to create the Mike Clark Skills Center at the Clarence Fraim Boys & Girls Club in Wilmington.

Ann and Gail are asking friends, family, and supporters of MIKE’S TEAM to keep the momentum going! The program is growing, and the need for continued funding to cover ongoing expenses and staffing is great. Your efforts in providing funding for the renovations at the Fraim Center have inspired us to replicate the Mentoring Center and Skills Center programs to another Boys & Girls Club –H. Fletcher Brown in east Wilmington!

ABOUT THE MIKE CLARK LEGACY FOUNDATION

Mike Clark passed away unexpectedly in March 2008 of complications from a surgical procedure. The Mike Clark Legacy Foundation (MCLF) was founded in April 2008 to preserve Mike’s memory, and to continue Mike’s lifelong service and dedication to serving the needs of less-privileged children.
