Returning from a bike ride south of the canal a couple of months ago, I was surprised to see a group of bike riders that I didn’t recognize, near the intersections of Rt.1, 7 and 273. One rider was pulling a trailer sporting an orange logo, and they were accompanied by a delivery truck with the same logo.  I managed to catch the words “wash”, “cycle” and “laundry”.  As soon as I got home, I searched the Internet and found reference to a bike-based business called “Wash Cycle Laundry” that had started up in Philadelphia several years ago.

So, what were they doing riding in Delaware?  I emailed the Director of Marketing Leigh Goldenberg to find out. Goldenberg responded promptly with this:  How wonderful that you saw us this weekend! I was the one driving the giant support vehicle behind our brave cyclists (by grafton). We ended up going 160 miles from Philadelphia to Washington D.C. to launch our service there …

“We posted photos on Instagram and Twitter from our account @TheWashCyclist with #GearedforClean. … I can say that we loved being in Delaware! As soon as we got to Maryland, the hills were relentless!”

Around the time they traveled through Delaware, NPR reported on their business.  Wash Cycle Laundry was also featured in a recent article by the Bike Coalition of Greater Philadelphia.

Perhaps some enterprising local cyclists will be inspired by this company to form a similar bike-based business in Delaware!
