For the third year in a row West Side Grows Together* will host “Better Block for the 500 & 600 blocks of North Union Street from 4:00-10:00 pm on August 1, 2 and 3:

“Experience the possibilities and advocate for change! From August 1st-3rd 2016, West Side Grows presents Better Block along the 500 and 600 block of N. Union St. The street will be temporarily transformed with bike lanes, benches, parklets, live music, artists, family activities, and outdoor seating. Plus, learn more about transportation and streetscape enhancements along the corridor.”

WHEN: August 1, 2 & 3; 4-10PM
WHERE: 500 and 600 blocks of Union Street, Wilmington
WHAT: outdoor dining, live music, artists, mini-parks….and a bike lane!

Each day of Better Block there will be a different ride, each one leaving from a different origin (north Wilmington, downtown Wilmington and Trolley Square):

  • North Wilmington: Monday, August 1, departing promptly at 5:30 pm from the Park and Ride at Kennett Pike (Rt. 52) and N. DuPont Rd.  This joint White Clay Bicycle Club/Wilmington Trail Club ride will be about 5 miles to Better Block. Riders can ride the 2 miles back on their own after enjoying the festivities on Union St.  See the WCBC calendar for more details. (CANCELED)
  • Downtown Wilmington: Tuesday, August 2, departing promptly at 5:30 pm from the Urban Bike Project.  See the Urban Bike Project Facebook announcement for more details.
  • Trolley Square: Wednesday, August 3, departing from Trolley Bikes on Delaware Ave. at 7:00 pm.  See their Facebook page or call for more information.

Pick the ride that works best with your schedule, or ride all three two days!  Or walk, ride the bus, or carpool. (Or drive, if you must.). But no matter how you get there, come, enjoy, celebrate and share in a vision for creating a vibrant and compelling place in Wilmington.

* West Side Grows Together is “a coalition of Wilmington’s West Side residents, businesses, churches and community groups working together to make our neighborhoods the best they can be.”
